New Diamond Discovery : Sierra Leone

The Kono district in Sierra Leone consists of small mines owned by diamond mining companies that are usually foreign. The small-scale artisanal mining that take place is usually heavily dependent on human labor rather than heavy machinery used in industrial mining. Large discoveries are rare but not impossible, with the Kono district being one of the richest diamond deposits in all of Sierra Leone. A recent diamond discovery by christian pastor Emmanuel Momoh is the finding of a 709 carat diamond. This diamond can be accounted for the fact that is the 13th largest diamond to be unearthed and Sierra Leone officials are thankful the diamond was not smuggled outside of the country. Value has not been determined because it is usually the clarity rather than the size that determines the worth of these gem quality stones. The payout for the pastors discovery has not been disclosed but it is safe to say that the diamond will end up being sold for millions potentially at an auction; much more than what its finder will receive. The hopes of high bidding prices promises to share the fortune from the diamond with the community, hopefully in a transparent way. Such a finding is exceptionally rare and we cannot wait to learn more about this diamond and its characteristics. As of now it is locked up in a safe after the president Ernest Bai Koroma had a look at its rarity.
