New Day-New Attitude. When Will You Next Dress UP?
When will you next get dressed up, either to go to work, or go out on a date? Two weeks? Two months?
Who knows, really? I can tell you the last time I got dressed up was March 3rd. I had a client session and since then I have been WFH – working from home. I haven’t fixed my hair or put on make-up. My fanciest pants have been jeans but generally work-out pants (and I ain’t working out yet) or jammies. Good Lord – that’s over two weeks. What if I forget how to style my hair or apply my make-up? What if I forget how buttons work? So as I sat on the couch, gazing somewhat boredly at my husband, asking, "What are we doing for dinner?" It wasn’t because we’re short on food, it’s because I was short on interest and long on, “Geeze! how many more weeks of this?” And then it came to me…..What if we theme our dinners? Yeh? How about we focus on not just what we eat but how we dress?
I turned to my husband and made the first suggestion. It didn't take long to rattle off a list of possible themed dinners:
Hawaii, Cruise, Scottish, Mountain/hiking, Christmas, Pool/beach Party, July 4th, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Indian, Roman/Italy, Downtown Abby, Football/ tailgating, Roaring 20’s, English, Murder Mystery (we’ve ordered 2-person game), Russian, Victorian, Las Vegas, Medieval, Mexican, Masquerade.
We agreed on our rules. The dress just needs to be “in the spirit” of the theme and we would build the menu together. We came up with so many, so quickly, we agreed to keep it to weekends. We’ve decided on Indian tonight; so now we’re googling Indian cocktails. We have all we need for the food and I’ve already picked out my clothes – I think bright, rich colors are thematically correct. I’d love to hear what your ideas are for themes and I’ll let you know how the Murder Mystery works out – assuming we don’t kill each other.
This week we celebrated 42 years of marriage. When we pledged to be together forever, we didn’t think it would mean every day, in self-quarantine for days, or weeks, or months. But that’s what we’ve got and we’re going to have fun, doing it together. (Picture was us at a real Masquerade Ball Fall 2019)
