Future Outlook on AI: Embracing Change for a Brighter Tomorrow: Beyond doubt, artificial intelligence has become one of the most transformative forces of our time. Today, people get to work on some of the most exciting things humanity has ever seen. Some even describe AI as “potentially bigger than fire,” highlighting its profound impact on the future of humanity. The recent stream of AI advancements is largely due to improvements in chipsets and computing power. Despite this acceleration, significant developments take time, and the human factor remains a primary limitation to the pace of progress. Could artificial intelligence become our best friend or our worst enemy?

Breaking Barriers: Small Language Models and Accessibility of AI Language Processing: In recent years, small language models (SLMs) have sparked a revolution in AI, providing striking efficiency and versatility in natural language processing. Optimized for efficiency in resource-limited settings, these compact tools are reshaping AI-driven language processing, spanning text generation, sentiment analysis, and translation. Their edge computing capability reduces latency and enhances privacy, making them adaptable to specific industry needs as technology evolves. Say goodbye to bulky computers and hello to small language models (SLMs), compact yet powerful AI tools that handle linguistic tasks, even on low-power devices!

The Power Grid of Tomorrow: The AI Divide: In technology, there are a few subjects that evoke as much interest and apprehension as artificial intelligence. The appeal surrounding AI often stems from its representation in the media. And the perception of it being the domain of a select few tech giants. But despite its outward simplicity, there’s a depth of complexity that demands a closer look. In this article, we dive into an episode of the Artificial Intelligence After Work Podcast. This episode emphasizes the importance of demystifying AI. Joining us in this episode are Kiryl Zhdanovich and Jonatan Raber from Fever, alongside Henrik G?thberg.

Lean, Mean, Green Machines: Optimizing AI for Energy Efficiency: As AI technology advances, the industry is actively working to meet the increasing demand for electricity and water to support the servers powering this innovation. A standard DGX computer, the gold standard for AI tasks, consumes more than 10KW of power. Big Tech is expected to purchase millions of these systems this year, surpassing the power usage of New York City. With this comes the responsibility to find sustainable ways to manage energy consumption. Researchers and engineers are already working on creative solutions to mitigate the environmental impact.

Large Language Models: How to Run LLMs on a Single GPU: The rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-4 and Gemini Ultra comes with increased costs associated with their training and deployment. “With training costs reaching $78 million for GPT-4 and $191 million for Gemini Ultra, the need for efficiency in LLM deployment is more critical than ever.” states Aditya Jain as a speaker at the ninth annual Data Innovation Summit in Stockholm. In this article, we take a deeper look into a presentation at the Data Innovation Summit 2024. This talk, led by Aditya Jain, Applied Research Scientist at Meta Platforms, tackles the feasibility of running Large Language Models (LLMs) on a single GPU, offering cost-effective alternatives to reduce costs while maintaining performance.

Apple brings ChatGPT to iPhones in AI overhaul: Apple is to boost its Siri voice assistant and operating systems with OpenAI's ChatGPT as it seeks to catch up in the AI race. The iPhone maker announced the Siri makeover along with a number of other new features at its annual developers show on Monday. It is part of a new personalized AI system - called "Apple Intelligence" - that aims to offer users a way to navigate Apple devices more easily. Updates to its iPhone and Mac operating systems will allow access to ChatGPT through a partnership with developer OpenAI. ChatGPT can also be used to boost other tools, including text and content generation.

Meta's WhatsApp launches new AI tools for businesses: Meta opens new tab launched its first AI-driven ad targeting program for businesses on WhatsApp, as it tries to wring revenue out of the popular chat service, the company announced on Thursday at a conference in Brazil. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new tools in a video which was exhibited during the event. The announcement marks a shift for WhatsApp, an encrypted messaging service that heavily touts its privacy credentials and has long eschewed the types of targeted advertising tools that underpin Meta's other apps, like Facebook and Instagram.

Google makes adjustments to AI Overviews after a rocky rollout: Google is making some changes to its AI Overviews, after the artificial intelligence-driven search feature gave what the company calls "odd and erroneous" responses to people's online searches. AI Overviews were introduced last month at Google's annual I/O developer conference. Now, when people use Google Search to find information on certain topics, a box of AI-generated text appears at the top of the search results, annotated with links to external websites. Traditional search results appear below the AI Overviews, marking a major shift in how Google presents information.

AI Systems Are Learning to Lie and Deceive, Scientists Find: "GPT- 4, for instance, exhibits deceptive behavior in simple test scenarios 99.16% of the time." Two recent studies — one published this week in the journal PNAS and the other last month in the journal Patterns — reveal some jarring findings about large language models (LLMs) and their ability to lie to or deceive human observers on purpose.

New Insight Service Accelerates Data Analytics Adoption with Microsoft Fabric: A Microsoft Azure Expert Managed Service Provider and Featured Partner for Microsoft Fabric, has launched a fast-start service that accelerates the adoption of data analytics across the enterprise through the use of Microsoft Fabric. Companies seeking to implement generative AI and analytics often struggle to access the necessary data due to its various formats and locations within the organization.
