New Communication Coordinator joins the AusCam team

AusCam Freedom Project welcomes Dr Ian Weber to the Phnom Penh-based team as the new Communication Coordinator for the anti-human trafficking organization.

Born in Australia, Ian is a passionate advocate of women’s rights, gender equality and individual freedom through 30 years of working as a communication strategist, professional writer, and international educator.

Ian earned a PhD in Communication, focusing on the Sociology of Chinese Youth Development in the post-modernization period. He holds Masters’ degrees in education and business, completed a postgraduate diploma in Further Education & Training and undergraduate studies in journalism, and is an International House (London)-accredited Train-the-Trainer.

Ian’s international experience is extensive and impactful, with work in strategic communication, activism, and community engagement in international projects in China, Singapore, Fiji, Samoa, and Saudi Arabia.

‘I am particularly interested in repurposing NGO resources, once thought exhausted, in innovative and creative ways,’ he said.

‘Bringing new life to what was once thought of as expended to create positive social change for communities is incredibly rewarding.

‘It is truly a gift that I have received such an opportunity to use my knowledge, experience, and skills to prevent the tragedy that is Online Child Sexual Exploitation.

‘I feel blessed to work with amazing staff and leadership groups in Cambodia and Australia.’

Ian joined the AusCam Freedom Project in late February after consulting on Australian rural and regional community engagement and stakeholder analysis for regional development, renewable and sustainable energy transitions, and community leadership and well-being projects.

His work for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UNESCO, UN Women, Pacific Freedom Forum, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ) has contributed significantly to positive international development, relations, and cooperation.

We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Australian Volunteers Program enabling us to have someone of Ian's calibre working with us for the next 12 months.
