New Client: Manufacturer told them, we have no one that does pneumatics, we'll just send our salesman over.

So I get a call asking if I can fix the pnuematic controls controlling the hot water temperature for the facilitiy. Building Supervisior advised he didn't want a salesman or an energy tech trying to sell the latest and greatest controls. I said I'd drop over and see what he had providing the controls. Been a while since I had seen the brass controller in the picture and that until very recently had been doing it's job of resetting the hot water temp based on the outdoor air. Of course, a replacement would need to be a more current model (T-5800-3) and I found that ALPs Controls still able to retrive the unit I needed.
With delivery in hand, I scheduled a return trip to calibrate and install. I admit I had to build a calibration kit of (2) temperature gauges (0-100 degf) and (40-240 degf) each having a prv to replicate the temperature inputs to the controller. Had a little trouble calibrating the controller at first as the rubber plug to the "R" test port came out with my needle test probe with out my notice. Realised the problem and started over with success. With unit calibrated I installed in the panel and connected all the tubing. The valve throttled and HWST settled in close to its setpoint of 138 degf.
Second time this year I had the opportunity to work on pnematics and the control is pretty good if the air supply is dry and maintained at design pressure and calibration of the controllers is seasonal! Just this old controls guy happy to be of service! Roger

5 年Great job Roger, it’s always fun to work on something from the “old” days and see it working like new when you are done.

5 年We recently did an energy efficiency RCx project on a pneumatic system! I had to brush up on my lingo with the team and it takes a little more labor, but still possible to get a great result!
