4 Key Questions you need to answer What?.... Why ? .....Who? .... How?
Having over the years worked on many DevOps projects that have entailed challenging customer demands including aggressive timelines, limited budgets it is important to realise and appreciate that the approach to Product Backlog (i.e. 'What' we are trying to achieve conceptually) Management is key to a successful delivery strategy.
Most importantly to be successful it is essential to understand the Contextual Architecture ('Why') of the Problem Domain at hand and to challenge the customer to ensure whether this can be achievable within the resource constraints and whether this is the right thing to do. It is at this juncture where we ask ... Does the proposed vision Align with Enterprise Strategy
Next challenge is with respect to Resource Management and identifying which 'doers' will be able to play a key role to facilitate and action the Backlog items effectively once they have been prioritised into scope. Once these Champions ('Who') are identified (subject to their availability) the next challenge is onboarding them with to embrace a new philosophy of Standup Governance ... that is Standups that are Focused, Actionable and Rapidly
So how do you ensure 'Who' does 'What' effectively?
Many years ago there was a paradigm shift from waterfall (that focused too much time in scoping requirements to a fixed specification) to agile (that focuses on the essential requirements for a MVP as a starting point) for successful delivery of projects scoped within budget and time and in recent years there is now another paradigm shift within agile that needs to adapt team structure in order to break down enterprise silos and promote collaboration across an enterprise...
Having Team Players that are multi-disciplined, collaborative and goals oriented sharing the same vision is key to successfully embracing digital revolution for delivering #SystemsOfInnovation ... having resources with multidisciplinary skills that can engage and interact with different stakeholders from different domains of expertise is key to collaborative success ... Focused Standups that capture and mitigate dependencies, constraints and risks fast and effectively is fundamental to a smooth and successful delivery ... As organisations adapt towards lean workforces reducing common repeatable tasks across #SystemsOfRecord via RPA, the new workforce is left to focus their energy effectively and maximise their potential on innovation across the enterprise ...
