A new channel, an inspiring day!

Hello folks,
Having spent most of my social media time on Twitter, posting on LinkedIn is new for me. If you are reading this, you are seeing day one of a new journey, so welcome. The incredible number of SLC community members who are here is what’s behind me taking this step. From current students and SLC staff and faculty, to SLC alumni, donors, and community partners, we see remarkable growth in terms of connection and the sharing of information. I hope to add to that by sharing the remarkable accomplishments and inspiring stories happening here at SLC.
Speaking of stories...
I was recently asked to tell my own story, as a contributor to a student-run TEDx event on our Brockville campus. I have to recognize the tremendous organization that goes into such an event – our students did a fabulous job! TED states that close to 30,000 TEDx events have taken place, and the students who pulled the Brockville event together thought of everything – games between sessions to help people connect and learn about each other, content curated to resonate with a diverse audience, even community sponsorship for door prizes and stage decorations that rival anything you’ve seen on Pinterest!
My part was simple. I got to share my leadership story, and it was neat to reflect on what makes up key ingredients of my personal leadership recipe. It really comes down to this:
· Love what you do and be passionate about it
· Surround yourself with good people
· Be positive
· Have fun and laugh lots
· Be nice – to everyone
A happy ending
To Chad Izatt and his co-organizers, I say “thank-you.” It was a great honour to be part of the day. To TEDx, the chapter of TED that helps translate their model locally, thank you for being generous with your vision and community – and to the attendees of the day, thank you for listening while I talked about what leadership means to me.
I am excited to continue sharing stories and talking about college initiatives here on LinkedIn. I also enjoy connecting with people and in all fairness, I must warn you, I do tend to share a few hopeful Toronto Maple Leaf tweets over on Twitter. Wherever you like to visit, let’s connect and continue the conversation! Thank you for reading.
