New Bridge for Island Boardwalk.
The Local Council recently presented Decksafe solutions with a unique project to build build an new bridge across a stream in the local salt marshes of Mersea Island. As the bridge sits on a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) there are unique requirements to ensure a solution was appropriate given the location and that it was acceptable to the various governmental bodies (Marine Management Organisation, Natural England and Colchester Borough Council).
Decksafe Solutions were quick to come up with a Light weight GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) solution. This meant that all sections of the bridge could be simply lifted into position without the need for specialist machinery or heavy lifting equipment, that could damage the surrounding area.
The Bridge was fabricated in three meter sections at our factory in Brantham (Suffolk), before being transported to site on Mersea Island in Essex. The task of assembling the bridge on site only took two and a half days due to the unique design and light weight (incredibly strong) material used.
Now after being closed for many months, the public can enjoy walking across the salt marsh to the beach without getting wet and muddy (or a long diversion).
