The new Brazilians eating habits
Introduction
In this report I′m going to outline some of the changes in eating and how effective they have been to their health. I will also introduce some developments that may take place in the future.
Improvements
In recent years Brazilians have widely varied their menu. From traditional local recipes based on ingredients such as rice, beans, meat, potatoes and legumes or vegetables to fast food meal bought in all-you-can-eat buffets or “roach coaches”. Studies with adult and elderly population show a reduction in the consumption of fatty and fried foods, dairy products, salt and sugar. Moreover, people are filling their plates with a vast number of eatables, that are both healthy and tasty. We also noticed an intake increase of health foods, such as natural, organic, whole and vegetarian foods or dietary supplements.
Benefits
Under these new standards, people are getting more conscious about square meals, which allow them to avoid overweight, diabetes, bone and dental weaknesses and stroke. They are also considering international cuisines like Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc. Afterall, they are either reducing organic waste and carbon footprint.
Outlook
One cannot exclude the possibility of exotic dishes at our table when we’re thinking about future food systems. It′s already available in the biggest hamburger chains in the USA, plant-based “burgers” produced by companies Impossible Foods? and Beyond Meat?. They look, are cooked and satisfy like beef, without GMOs, soy or gluten. There is also a strong possibility that edible insects will become a complement to animal protein since they are a sustainable source of fat, protein, vitamins and minerals. Nutrinsecta? in Minas Gerais state runs a large-scale professional insects farm.
