New Book Release

What happens when software entrepreneurs, real estate developers, government officials, architects, planners, and builders work together to create the city of the future from scratch? Curious about the answer to this question, my coauthor and I shadowed a start up for almost five years as the team navigated the challenges and opportunities being created real time in the smart-city space. I hope you'll find the result, a new book called Building the Future, to be a compelling technological adventure story that also provides new leadership insights for innovation in an increasingly interdependent world. The book uses the case study to explore teaming across industries. As we show, success depends on a leader's ability to unite vastly different people behind a bold vision and to help them build bridges across professional cultures. Although an extreme case of cross-industry collaboration, the project allows us to develop lessons for other organizations today who are experimenting with teaming across company boundaries to innovate.
