New Book! Design and Heritage

My latest book is now available to pre-order: Design and Heritage: The Construction of Identity and Belonging is co-edited with Prof Rebecca Houze and is part of the Routledge series Key Issues in Cultural Heritage edited by Prof Laurajane Smith. I’m grateful to both of them, and to all of the contributing authors, as well as publisher Heidi Lowther for her patience and wise counsel during this lockdown project, and to Profs Rodney Harrison, William Logan and Liliana Janik for their positive endorsements of the book. This book brings together the fields of design (history) and heritage (studies) for the first time. The excellent chapters examine subjects as diverse as a Canadian maple leaf quilt, border ceremonies in India and Pakistan, indigenous living heritage and Kulin ways of designing, Hong Kong heritage branding, South African tourist postcards, and urban lettering in Brazil, among many others.
