A New Beginning
Greetings and salutations friends! Happy Tuesday! Hope all is well with you and yours. Time to interrupt my usual stream of #LochlanConor pics and political rants to update you on my professional life.
Today, I begin a new journey as the Media Relations and Communications Specialist at the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary.
I am super-stoked for this opportunity to spread my wings and do something totally different. That being said, I don't know how different it will really be, as I get to marry my love of storytelling, community and education. When I was hosting my radio show, I loved being able to tell the tales of innovation and entrepreneurship in Calgary and Southern Alberta and I really see this as an extension of that.
With this new chapter comes the end of an old chapter and I'll be honest, there's a bittersweet feeling to today. I spent the last 15 years of my life eating, breathing and living radio. From Lloydminster to Medicine Hat to Calgary back to Medicine Hat and back to Calgary as a reporter, anchor, co-host, news director and finally as a talk show host. It was an insane journey with so many amazing moments. I have no regrets.
I would like to take a moment to thank all of the listeners who have followed me along this journey over the last 15 years. No matter the community, it always meant the world to me that you turned to me for news and information you felt was important. You allowed me into your homes, your vehicles, your lives, and I will be forever grateful for that.
I would also like to thank each and every one of the people I got to work with over the last 15 years. You all had a hand in shaping me into the person I am today. You made me want to be a better broadcaster. You made me want to be a better leader. We got to build newscasts, radio shows, rebuild station reputations and we even built a radio station together. Thank you for putting your faith in me to do all of that and so much more. You're all more than co-workers to me. You're friends and for that, I will be forever grateful for that.
Finally, I want to thank my family. They have been by my side every step of the way and I know I wouldn't be where I am today without them. They have put up with sporadic phone calls and text messages over the years, long roadtrips, moving me from city to city, finally meeting the love of my life and now doing what they can to help as Erin and I have started our own little family. They say that you are the sum of the five people closest to you and, if that's the truth, I'm the luckiest man in the world because of my family.
When interviewing for this position, I was asked what got me up in the morning. What motivated me. And my answer was "legacy." I'm not talking about having my name on billboards or being known by thousands of people. I mean "legacy" by the impact I have on the people around me. I've always wanted my parents to be proud of me and what I've done with my life. I want Erin to be proud of me. And I want Lochlan to look up to me and maybe one day, he'll say that his dad is cool.
Again, thank you all so very, very much for all of the love and support you've shown. It means the absolute world to me. Now I should probably go have a shower and get ready for work!
Now back to your regular scheduled programming.
