New Apple Find My Feature Now Integrated into Lost & Found Software

Apple has announced that users will soon be able to share the location of AirTags and other Apple devices. Travelers frequently place AirTags in their luggage to keep track of their bags during trips. While this provides travelers with a better sense of where missing items might be, there hasn’t been an easy way to share that information with third parties apart from taking screenshots and upload them to Lost and Found Software.

The new feature, called “Share Item Location,” is accessible within the Find My app. Find My allows owners to track the location of their Apple devices, including lost iPhones, iPads, and AirTags?—?even when offline.?

With the new functionality, users can generate a link for any of their Apple devices and share it like any other link. The link opens a webpage displaying the item’s location on an interactive map, which updates as the device’s location changes. Users can stop sharing the location whenever they choose, and the link will automatically expire after seven days.

Apple announced this feature in response to the need for improved baggage tracking, a priority for airlines that have been refining their strategies for decades. While Apple hasn’t detailed the exact process for sharing this information with airlines, the option is already available with Lost and Found Software, allowing users to share specific Apple Find My links for lost items. This reflects how adaptable our solutions are to new technological developments.

The Share Item Location feature is currently available for testing in the public beta version of iOS 18.2.
