New Acquisition: Cyndi Lauper Documentary LET THE CANARY SING

Dogwoof has boarded the Cyndi Lauper documentary, LET THE CANARY SING, for international sales, in partnership with Sony Music Enterainment.

The latest film from award winning filmmaker Alison Ellwood (THE GO GO’S, LAUREL CANYON) chronicles Cyndi Lauper’s career that has spanned over four decades. The film is set to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival next month followed by the UK premiere at Sheffield DocFest.

Recounting Cyndi Lauper’s meteoric ascent to stardom and her profound impact on generations through her music, ever-evolving punk style, unwavering feminism, and tireless advocacy. The film takes the audience on an engaging exploration of the world of a renowned and pioneering artist, who has left a remarkable legacy with her artwork.

Since bursting onto the music scene in 1983 with her album She’s So Unusual, Lauper has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. The ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ singer’s story is told through never-before-seen footage and candid interviews with friends and family including Boy George, Billy Porter, and Patti LaBelle.

LET THE CANARY SING is a Fine Point Films production, produced by Trevor Birney, Eimhear O’Neill and Andrew Tully. It is executive produced by Tabs Breese and Lisa Barbaris, with Tom Mackay and Richard Story who served as executive producers for Sony Music Entertainment and Sophia Dilley and Wesley Adams for Concord Originals.
