Amazon sellers operating in the EU and Northern Ireland should brace themselves for the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), which is set to impose significant requirements starting December 13, 2024. This regulation is pertinent to sellers of most non-food consumer products, aiming to enhance safety standards and consumer protection within the market.
Understanding GPSR:
GPSR is intended to ensure that all non-food products sold in the EU and Northern Ireland adhere to stringent safety standards. By December 13, 2024, sellers are mandated to comply with various requirements affecting labeling, traceability, and representation of product information, both physically and online.
Key Requirements:
According to the official announcement on Seller Central, Amazon sellers must undertake the following actions to align with the new guidelines :
Labelling and Traceability: Products must meet existing labelling and traceability requirements, ensuring easy identification and safety compliance.
EU Responsible Person: Assign an EU Responsible Person for each product to handle compliance and serve as a contact point.
Comprehensive Labeling: Items must be labelled with the contact information of the Responsible Person, the manufacturer, and, if applicable, the importer, along with the type, batch, or serial number of the product.
Safety Information: Products must include safety information and warnings, in the language of the country of sale, to inform consumers adequately.
Online Listing Requirements: Online listings should display the Responsible Person's information, manufacturer's name, and contact details, along with a product picture and any other identification details. Warning and safety information should also be presented in the language of the country of sale.
Preparing for Compliance:
To facilitate a smooth transition, sellers are advised to address the first five requirements as soon as possible. Further guidance on completing requirements 6 to 8 will be provided in early 2024, helping sellers update their online listings and ensure full compliance.
For more comprehensive details and guidance, sellers are encouraged to visit the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) page on Seller Central.
Stay informed and proactive to ensure your products meet these forthcoming standards, safeguarding your business operations and maintaining customer trust. As the deadline approaches, keeping abreast of updates and preparing in advance will be crucial for seamless compliance.
