Welcome back to Double Your Business. Today, I’m diving into one of the most transformative forces in any business: the power of training. I’ve coached and trained over 20,000 people in my career, and I’ll say this with conviction — training and consistently retraining your team is more powerful than you might imagine. It’s the lifeblood of growth, productivity, and high morale, and it’s often the key to a business that thrives rather than survives.

Years ago, I took over a struggling conservatory sales region. It was practically on its last legs. I remember the team sitting around, feet up on the table, lacking drive and focus. They were telling themselves, “This region is dead, you can’t sell anything here, the customers aren’t buyers.” They were defeated before they even tried. But I knew better.

I went to the UK Sales Director and told him, “Give me this region, and I’ll make it the best in the country.” He smirked, probably thinking I was full of it. But I wasn’t. I knew that one man’s rubbish is another man’s gold. So, I took over, set up a strategy, and — crucially — started training the team. I didn’t just train them; I made it my mission to transform the way they thought, acted, and worked. Within three months, we were leading the country, and in six months, no one could touch us.
