Never underestimate the power of community

The word “community” has been a part of my vocabulary intentionally this year. I grew?deeper?relationships with Bill Shander and Gini?von Courter this year.?I would refer to them in conversations with others?and?include?the fact that we have?community. I do feel so much that I have fellowship with them.?Although truth be told, I shared their work?with others?well before I ever had the first conversation with them. I thought of them?as my community, and I wanted my community to know of them.??

I had a lovely dinner with my?colleagues?at?CompTIA, Katie, Becky, Alyssa, and Teresa who added someone new to our shared fellowship from their community –?part of their leadership,?Kelly.?Our conversation at dinner was amazing and centered around the data community.?

My dinner with the CompTIA team, even a small part of it,?made me?miss my team. My team?who are in my community,?my?people,?they work every day building?and?sharing?in this with Daniel and I.?I knew them all before they came to work for us, because they were introduced into?my community of data?professionals. They are community builders right beside us.??

The messages I receive from you, those of you who follow me, know me, or learn from me – or all three. You have no idea what a sense of community you?give?me. Your words make me feel?accepted?and?appreciated, and I am proud you and I have shared characteristics to succeed in the data industry.??

Community is not just a geography –?it is?a feeling of fellowship with others. As we enter the holiday season, or for those who?do not?share the same holidays, as we wind down this year,?please use this time to?reflect – think of your community.?As you plan for the next year, think on how you will build your community with others.?Physical distance,?from 6 feet to?6000 miles,?does not?change the way we feel when we are truly connected with shared goals, and shared experiences.??

Thank you all for being a part of my community. I am beyond grateful, and as we approach the coming days – Thankful.??
