Never Settle For Less: Joining The Right Organization.

Your current or next job could likely be the start of a lifetime career. Therefore, it is essential that for anyone in search of a new job, whether they are unemployed or simply dissatisfied with their current position, to invest enough time and effort to find the right organization which offers them genuine growth. While not everyone may be in a position to wait for their dream position, it is important that you work tirelessly towards joining an organization that:

? Offers you room to grow and develop, providing a qualified source of knowledge and training for each individual with an environment that enables employees to implement their learnings in their daily tasks;

? Recognizes its responsibility in employee support as early as on-boarding until the employee is ready to face this future-sensitive opportunity with minimum supervision;

? Is stable, withstanding the test of time under a remarkable leadership with a proven track record.

In time, you will gain the experience that is required to build a lifetime career or lead a higher quality of life through improved job satisfaction. I am a passionate believer in the importance of sharing knowledge and experience that adds value to others, most especially to my employees. As a results-orientated entrepreneur with a track record of building successful businesses from the ground-up, I am a firm believer that it is one of the most important qualities a leader must have.

I truly believe that many employees are victims of organizations that are simply not the right fit for them. Either because the organization:

  • Does not hold the same value system;
  • Does not invest on quality leadership and management through leaders that fails to motivate, inspire and lead by example and experience, eventually drawing the line away from employees' career goals and sentiments.
  • Does not have the right corporate structure in place thus making career growth and the chain of command seem unclear to its members;
  • Does not invest in long-term plans & initiatives that may leave its members unsecured with their careers;
  • Does not realize the importance of employee skills enhancements and trainings; and
  • Does not invest on strategy that constantly withstands the test of ever-changing markets.

How to Choose the right organization? Identify the right platform. Do your research, compare different companies in the light of your ideal criteria and what and where you want to reach in your career. You have to carefully choose the right organization to join because:

  1. It is make or break. Whichever career path you endure, whatever company you choose, it will dictate where your career is going moving forward. It's make or break, you make the wrong decision, you delay your success, it's that simple.
  2. You have to be practical and objective. It will just allow you to decide once and ones you sign up there's no turning back, there will be no excuses. The best company for you will always be that will inspire you and motivate you to endure the experience with the good and the bad of it. Different people get inspired by different things and draw strength from different motives, choose what pushes you to do better naturally.
  3. Track record is important. In this generation where almost everyone is being pushed to open their own businesses making it appear like its the only way for one to get rich so easily, most of them tend to fail, this is because most of those who engage in entrepreneurship are excited to earn more but or not willing to work more, invest more and take bolder risks. The best company for you is headed by a leader who is a strategist and has a proven track record, someone who has been through the ups and downs of the market, someone who can sell regardless if the market is doing great or not, someone who has gone through every detail of the industry you want to be a part of and someone who has always been willing to endure the process. The captain always calls the directions.
  4. Serious growth. The best organization for you is that which is lead by someone who never ceases to grow and learn. Someone who always run after the horizon, someone who can turn an idea into good business. You should be in a company that will provide you with more doors to grow and this can only be possible if the company itself invests the right resources for it to secure its place in the market and continues to grow its business: forward or upward.

What drove me to open my own startup. One of the companies that I worked at tirelessly for almost two years ended up closing down as the two partners went into a legal battle and had to part-ways. Sooner as I realized those issues, I decided to really start planning strategically to join the right platform that will offer me the knowledge and learnings required in order for me to move to the next level. That was during the financial crises of 2008/9, at times when it was very tough, I was let go the same time the 2009 crisis effect started to deepen. I joined a few real estate companies but I truly failed to find the right platform that adds value to me considering I could not go back to my previous career anymore. Knowing how wrong it was to join a platform that does not live with what I aspire to achieve in life was my biggest motive to go all the way to starting my own real estate company during the peak of the financial crisis. I never settled for less, and I chose what's right for me and my career.

Very insightful article. It is so true that many have failed to rise in their career due to wrong choices of organisations. Later when they look at themselves they realize that only the number of years experience on their resume has grown but not knowledge, because they never had a chance to improvise their skills, due to lack of training, lack of knowledge transfer, etc etc and then they find themselves so unfit in the job market for their next job hunt. Organisations and right leaders plays a lot in shaping or breaking someones career.

You are so right. This happens especially when there is a fertile ground and room for innovation and creative thinking and your ideas and inputs make headway into been implemented. It makes it easy to align yout passion and plans. And you actually get to do what you love.
