Never Say "I Can't Afford It"? Again

Never Say "I Can't Afford It" Again

Never, ever, say this as a business owner: "I can’t afford it."

This low-energy statement is a death sentence for your business, damaging to your professional and personal reputation.

As you know it takes funds to run and operate a business. Your business is created to sustain a lifestyle for you to thrive in, with joy, balance and allow you to work in your purpose, of course! Stop laughing. It’s true! Why did you start your business if not to take your passion to the world and live off the rewards? If this in not happening and there is a deficit, you may only have a hobby that requires much of your energy.

Have you ever run in the opposite direction when you have felt the heavy energy of someone who is in financial straits? I have. Yes, I will admit it, because I have been burnt before by people who don’t put in the time, effort or commitment into themselves and their business to operate it properly and if they can’t do that for themselves, how can they step up for their client or partners?

ADVANCE NOTICE: This is a tender subject. If you want advice, and are willing to face money issues to get out of the "I can’t afford it" hamster wheel and hop onto the freeride of prosperity, abundance, money-making, bill-paying, vacation-enjoying, freedom-filled, stress-free, support-filled, mindset and lifestyle, in which you love your life and your work, don’t get mad at me, keep reading ….

As the founder of The Wellness Universe, I have personally come into contact and guided people who operate from a state of lack and until the mind-shift and investments in themselves and their business are made, they continue to stay in that broke and broken space. I am emotionally connected to this subject and don’t want YOU struggling. When you can't own your business, it owns you. When you can't operate giving your best, you rob the world of your gifts. That is a tragedy of the greatest kind in my book.

About money...

The fastest way to evoke uncertainty and unreliability in what you offer, is to be financially struggling and show it.

When it is known that you are not making money at what you do it sends the message that what you offer or do is not worth spending money on, you are a novice or maybe won’t be in business tomorrow.

This is not always the case, exactly, but many business owners have struggles with staying afloat, finances, funding and to put it simply, bringing in the dough.

When I hear a business owner say “I can’t afford it”, I truly, deep down, know what you mean. But, what you are saying and how it’s perceived by the listener is VERY different. Often, my stomach turns and my heart breaks as I say to myself, “Why? Why would you say that” or “Why? What’s going on that has you here living in ‘brokeville’?”

When someone says they ‘can’t’ do something, it is associated with thought responses from the listener as:

-       Not skilled.

-       Not open.

-       Not available.

-       Not educated/novice.

-       Don’t have it together.

-       Why not?

-       There is something really wrong!

When you hear someone say, "I can’t' afford" and it being related to a personal conversation, typically, you think to yourself, “I hope they don’t ask to borrow money from me”!

When it comes to business, it sends the message you are not making money, income, have the support needed through your business, not running your business professionally, etc. and sends a potential partner, client, etc. running in the opposite direction. Worse, the word may be spread that you are struggling, not reliable and not referable, ultimately damaging your reputation.

Truth be told, everyone has money struggles! Finding out what works, investing in education and support, developing new products and services, planning, systems, marketing, legal services, travel, etc. etc. etc., it all takes money and has nothing to do with what you know. Even the most wealthy people have gaps to access liquid funds.

When financial setbacks come up and you are confronted with an opportunity, may I suggest a more positive response:

- “This isn’t in the budget at this time.”

- “Let me think on this.”

- “At this time, this is not my focus but will consider it.”

- “Sounds like a great opportunity! However, I am committed in other areas right now.”

And any of these may be very true for you! Re-framing your mind around lack and putting a more positive statement verbally out there changes the conversation, dynamic and energy. It allows for professional and positive awareness to be cast on the conversation and leaves the listener with the thought that you are really processing and aware of where you allocate your funds, and not that you are in lack, a spendthrift or reckless with your finances.

Lack should never have you considering that you are not worthy of investing in yourself with education or the resources needed to run your show. In fact, the longer you operate at a deficit, the chances to be successful decline rapidly. Along with the emotional toll it takes, it degrades your creativity, spark, commitment and robs you of your time and energy.

Also, if you believe in energy and the law of attraction (like I do), the energy you attract by saying the suggested positive statements leaves the future open to possibilities.

Every time you say, “I can’t”, you never will (afford, have time, etc.). It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy!

There are many things that may need to be done in your business (and even personal life)…Maybe even a complete overhaul! But whatever you need to do to get it figured out, know there are many ways to help yourself foundationally, spiritually, socially, educationally and more. Most suggestions below are FREE or cost nearly zilch and all can lead to more money:

-       Read. Read articles and books by successful people.

-       Research. What are the trends that align with you and perhaps, a marketing shift is needed?

-       Research and get educated. Do you need to know more about what you are doing? Education never stops and is never a waste of time or money.

-       Community. Do you have coaches and mentors? Do you have people in the same area as you to get support from?

-       Do you need to bite the bullet and get a F/T or P/T job?

-       Do you need to shift your mindset around money? I recommend this class about money blocks.

-       Are you giving yourself balance and proper self-care? If you are burnt-out, you are clogging up the channels to see opportunities, rather, you are too busy focusing on your plate being FULL. I recommend this class to get supported.

-       Get your fundamentals in order. Do you have a business plan, marketing plan, etc.? Like they say, “Without a plan, you plan to fail”.

-       Are you networking? Get out and meet people. Get on the phone. Do what you must to get connected to people.

-       Are you getting creative? Have you tried new ways to do what you do? Hosting workshops, going to retreats, contacting former clients and offering them incentives for referrals? Going back to my previous suggestions of community and networking, people have some great ideas. The more people you speak with and connect to, the more ideas you will get.

This is just dipping your toe in the pool. I hope to have inspired you and allowed new ways for abundance to enter your life. Here’s to your success, financial abundance, freedom, fulfillment and most of all, making the world a better place!

:)
