A Never-Replaced Class Act

A Never-Replaced Class Act

Comments on the Queen

Not too many out there remember when Elizabeth was crowned. I do. I don’t remember if we had a TV when I was 11 ?, but we surely had a radio and not only were glued to it—my mother insisted we were cognizant of historical events—but we had newsreels between features at the River Theater (now a Buck Owen’s recording studio) and faithfully attended when double features were $.25, not closer to $25.00.?

Being somewhat an Anglophile and advocate of history, I paid attention to Elizabeth for the next 70 plus years and never ceased admiring her reign and how she conducted herself. If class-act was pictured in the dictionary, it would be Elizabeth. Love put her on the throne, and not love of her but love of King Edward for an American. King Edward III abdicated, the first king to ever do so, so he could marry American Wallis Simpson, after he was condemned by the Church of England for deciding to do so. So, love put her, as the daughter of Edward’s brother who became king, eventually on the throne. She earned the love of her people that followed, beginning the moment she was crowned.

I’m embarrassed for the totally worthless s—tslime professor at Carnegie Mellon university who not only berated this benevolent monarch but wished she “died in excruciating pain.” I’m astounded that anyone would wish that on Elizabeth, or nearly anyone for that matter, who worked tirelessly for those in her realm, all 1.7 billion in the U.K. and Commonwealth. That said, I won’t divulge what I wish for Uju Anya as it might sicken you and I’m not in reach of her to implement and won’t waste my time wishing it more than once. She’s not worth spit, much less more than a second’s consideration. I wonder what she thinks her former country, Nigeria, would be like had the British not ruled and civilized it. Likely her forefathers and progeny, if any and had she not flown to the U.S., would have been eaten by neighboring tribes. Then deposited on the roadside as toilets would have only been in that kings abode.

So, God bless and keep Elizabeth, I presume now seated at His right, and God bless and let’s all pray for King Charles III who has a very big, formerly benevolent seat to fill. And let’s hope the new Brit Prime Minister Liz Truss is half the PM Mrs. Margaret Thatcher was, whose autographed photo adorns my office walls. If so, she’ll clean up the mess other’s have allowed England to become.

If Uju Anya is an example of a university teacher and public figure, it's no wonder the US is full of biased, ignorant, diploma-wielding crackpots. That being said, politicians and their antics have always been a thorn in the sides of rational people, and even the best of them usually still have their own interests and image at heart. Just sayin'. Like you, L. J., my folks were lower middle class when it came to $$$ but I was blessed with intelligent ancestors, and fortunate to have attended schools in which most of the students were on a level --give or take a few layers-- with mine.

Well said LJ, she was one beautiful woman that shared her love with all. She will be greatly missed. My mom did the same thing by the way.

well said. I was not around when she came to the throne, but have always admired her for her courage which as Patton said is fear holding on a few minutes longer. She was a steady ship in a storm and steadfast in her benevolent treatment of others. I pray King Charles will lead with the courage and fortitude of his mother and not yield to pressure placed on him by the younger ones who only want to disrupt and bring down the morals and values that a Christian society is governed by.
