Never miss these commonly used form of verbs

1st form of verb

The first form of a verb, also known as the base form or infinitive form, is used in several tenses in English.?

1. Simple Present Tense:

The simple present tense is used with the base form of the verb for the third-person singular (he, she, it) and with the base form plus "s" or "es." Example: "She walks to work every day."

2. Simple Past Tense:

The simple past tense is used with the base form of the verb and sometimes with the addition of "-ed" or a change in vowel sound. Example: "I watched a movie last night."

3. Future with "will":

The future with "will" tense is used with the base form of the verb and the auxiliary verb "will." Example: "I will call you tomorrow."

4. Infinitive:

The infinitive form is used to indicate purpose, intention, or possibility. It is usually introduced by "to." Example: "I want to learn Spanish."

5. Imperative:

The imperative mood is used to give commands, instructions, or directions. It uses the base form of the verb, often with the subject implied. Example: "Clean your room."?

It's worth noting that the base form of the verb can also be used in the present continuous (progressive) tense, with the addition of "-ing." Example: "I am walking to work."

2nd form of verb

The second form of a verb, also known as the past simple or simple past tense, is used to describe actions that happened in the past and are now completed. It is formed by adding "-ed" to regular verbs, while irregular verbs have a different form altogether.?

Examples of when the second form of the verb is used in various tenses are:

1. Simple Past Tense:

The second form of the verb is used in the simple past tense to describe actions that occurred and were completed in the past. Example: "I walked to the store yesterday."

2. Present Perfect Tense:

The second form of the verb is used in the present perfect tense with the auxiliary verb "have" or "has" to describe an action that started in the past and has continued to the present. Example: "I have eaten breakfast already."

3. Past Perfect Tense:

The second form of the verb is used in the past perfect tense with the auxiliary verb "had" to describe an action that was completed before another action in the past. Example: "She had finished her homework before she went to bed."

4. Passive Voice:

In the passive voice, the second form of the verb is used with the appropriate form of the auxiliary verb "to be." Example: "The cake was baked by my mother."

It's important to note that while regular verbs add "-ed" to form the second form, irregular verbs have different forms that must be memorized. Examples of irregular verbs include "go" (went), "eat" (ate), and "come" (came).

3rd form of verb

The third form of a verb, also known as the past participle, is used in several tenses in English.?

1. Present Perfect Tense:

The present perfect tense is formed using the auxiliary verb "have" or "has" and the past participle of the main verb. Example: "I have eaten breakfast."

2. Past Perfect Tense:

The past perfect tense is formed using the auxiliary verb "had" and the past participle of the main verb. Example: "She had finished her homework before she went to bed."

3. Future Perfect Tense:

The future perfect tense is formed using the auxiliary verb "will have" or "shall have" and the past participle of the main verb. Example: "By this time next year, I will have graduated from college."

4. Passive Voice:

In the passive voice, the past participle of the main verb is used with the appropriate form of the auxiliary verb "to be." Example: "The cake was baked by my mother."

It's worth noting that the past participle can also be used as an adjective in the past or present tense, without any auxiliary verbs. For example, "the broken vase" or "the forgotten book."

Here is a short table with examples of the three forms of a regular verb:

| Verb | Base Form | Second Form | Third Form |

|------|----------|-------------|------------|

| Walk | Walk???| Walked???| Walked???|

| Talk | Talk???| Talked???| Talked???|

| Play | Play???| Played???| Played???|

| Wash | Wash???| Washed???| Washed???|

And here is a short table with examples of irregular verbs:

| Eat?| Eat???| Ate?????| Eaten???|

| Come | Come???| Came????| Come????|

| Do??| Do????| Did?????| Done????|

Note that irregular verbs have different second and third forms, which must be memorized as they do not follow a predictable pattern like regular verbs.
