Never Look Back!

“I joined school crying and I’m leaving school crying”. When I read the same words written by my seniors in the previous years’ magazines, I laughed. At that time, I used to think leaving school was something great. But now I understand the meaning behind these beautiful words. It is hard to believe that 14 years of schooling is over. I can’t call it the best years of my life, because so far these have been the only years of my life. My old class photograph takes me years back to my first day at school which was rather amazing. In the midst of whining and crying, I stood there stunned. Not knowing the reason behind all of this, I started to cry and whine like the others thinking it was some kind of ritual. Days later I cried, but this time with a reason that the boy next to me broke my only pencil. Such kids were we. In spite of all this nonsense, our teachers with their endless patience and endurance took our hands and opened our minds to a whole new fascinating world.

St. Michael’s has always taught me to explore and exploit my talents. When I look at my trophies that I won in various competitions, I’m also reminded of my failures. If I have won 20 competitions, then I would have lost nearly 50 others. While the whole world looks at your losses, my school has taught me to cherish them. It’s okay to be not okay. A very big thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the principals, vice-principals, coordinators, teachers and service staff. My gratitude to you cannot be expressed in words. I’ve learnt a lot of good manners, life-skills and certain other qualities like hard work, perseverance, adaptability, resilience, and so on. Be it just a simple Good morning, I always yearn towards turning the clock behind by a minute and look at the beautiful smile on the teacher which has just made my day.

Today standing here at the turning point of my life, and looking forward for a lovely career and to make new memories, I’m reminded of my topic ‘Never look back’. Yes, it is hard to leave behind such cute memories in the school campus, but missing is just a part of moving on. Today I look forward to a new, different life, making new friends and etc. but I can assure you one thing that the friends and memories I made here is matchless. Now, I look forward at my life with courage and strength in my heart and a million dreams in my mind and ten years from now when I look back through these pages I’m sure I will be able to tell others that it was my school that made me the person who I am today. I simply cannot say goodbye to those whom I have grown with, for the memories we have made will last a lifetime. Love you loads SMA, see you soon!

And a message for my juniors: Never be afraid to be yourself. Everybody will be with you when you are average because they feel comfortable knowing you’re below them. Once you aim higher you will be subject to mocking but don’t let that deter you. They are like quails that fly in group at the bottom level. Be like an eagle that flies alone but soars high. Pursue great heights. You’ll never know what your potential is until you push your limits.

I conclude with these words:
