The song is "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire. Once in a while, a song will come along and hijack a calendar day.
That day is September 21st, and that song is this song by Earth, Wind & Fire.
A melodious groove that is so happy and makes even a grumpy bear like me dance.
Just writing this, my foot is tapping.
The lyrics say "Ba-dee-ya" in some key points of the song. The word is the words were used to be a substitute until the right lyrics came along.
Only the right lyrics never came.
Band member Allee Willis was pressing until the time to record about what to replace the words with. When he asked what the words meant, his co-writer, Maurice White, said, "'Who the f*** cares?"
It was then that Willis said he learned the biggest lesson of his songwriting career:
"Never let the lyric get in the way of the groove."
So, let me just say this to you: never let a good template get in the way of a groove.
My About Page Formula isn't quite a template. I believe you can use it to catch the groove of your story.
Sometimes, the story is worth the groove. Your About page should be like a good groove. If you are worried about putting “lyrics” in there that are “just right,” you will likely default to jargon or default to using fancy words.
Your About Page should help your audience remember better days, or, in this case, picture the future of better days because they will work with you.
Every story you tell, and especially the one on your About page, should paint a picture. Anything else is substituting lyrics for the groove.
And you should never let the lyric (s) get in the way of the groove.
