Never hesitate to open your best bottles
Last week I heard a story about a person to whom was offered a very expensive and rare bottle of Romanné-Conti and how he surprised his friend by not hesitating to immediately buy and open that precious bottle. After he did it, that man cited the story of someone he knew who after building a great wine house for himself passed away without having tasted a single bottle of any of his best wines.
That story made me wonder: how many opportunities do people waste due to postponing decisions? How many people do we know who give up about their dreams without even trying to fight?
Then I remembered about so many times throughout not only this year, but throughout my entire life, when I was criticized by people around saying things such as 'you can't make it', 'it's not time for that', 'you are too old for this', 'you are too young for that', or 'this has already been tried and hasn't worked out'... and I had a really great time remembering and re-savouring some very precious victories I had due to precisely not having given any attention to all that and for not having hesitated to 'open the bottles'.
Throughout our lives the number of times we stumble or suffer small defeats probably surpass by far the number of victories we have. And it is really delightful the taste of victories, specially those conquered despite the apparent gigantic dimensions of the challenges and the plurality of the opinions against ourselves.
Every day we must remember that we do not need absolutely anybody saying whether we are good or not, or whether or not we are capable of conquering any challenges despite the size of the challenge. And if circumstantially we do not feel to be ready for something in particular, let's get ready without taking our eyes off our objectives.
A tough year like this one has been brought us as many lessons in number and importance only matched by the number of times we decided not to hesitate to open our most precious bottles, to the challenges we accepted and to how much we consequently learned and grew due to all that.
Happy 2018! And I wish that you never hesitate to open your best bottles ;)
