Never Give Up!

His mother and father didn't want him.

He weighed 2lbs & 12oz at birth.

He spent the first four months of his life in the hospital.

Doctors stated he wasn't going to survive...his medical records showed "Failure to thrive".

He was adopted at six months.

He continued to struggle throughout his childhood with slow development.

He was a different child... wasn't popular in elementary, junior and senior high school.

He worked hard on the family farm...before and after school.

At age ten...he had his first job...he picked blueberries during the summers.

He tried out for baseball in high school... although he hit every ball pitched to him...he was cut from the team.

He tried out for football...although he worked hard in practice, he sat on the bench for the entire season...except for one play...as a wide receiver...they threw the ball at him and he dropped the ball...he was awarded for the Most Improved Player of the Season.

At age 17, he was asked to move out of his home...he lived in a tent for six months during a harsh winter. He took showers at his high school and ate food at the restaurant where he was a cook.

He struggled with learning throughout high school...teachers just pushed him through the system.

Graduated high school with a vocational degree...entered the military at age 19.

The day he left for boot camp...his adoptive mother sat him down and stated that she had terminal cancer and only had 6 months to live...she died several years later.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana.  

He served on the base honor guard team and traveled throughout Indiana and presented military honors to Indiana Veterans whom passed away...he was discharged in 1992...right after the Gulf War.

He married his high school sweetheart in 1992

He joined the Army National Guard as an enlisted man, 25 years old...private first class.

At age 30, after attending community college and working full time..he transferred to a four year university and graduated with a finance degree.

He was the first in his family to graduate with a college degree.

He participated in Army ROTC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. First military officer in his family.

He was assigned to the 29th Infantry Division in Virginia...he served as an intelligence officer until he was asked to serve as an Infantry Platoon leader and was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He and his 45 man platoon provided security to the prison for those who were involved with the 911 attacks.

After serving in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba....he was asked to help out with detainee operations during the Iraq war in 2005.

 His group was responsible for maintaining control of Saddam Hussein and other POW's.

His wife was stationed in Iraq during 2004 -2005...she was a Trauma Physician, located at the 115th Field Hospital in Abu Ghraib Prison. Her unit was continuously attacked by the enemy...they played a big role in saving the lives of many serviceman during the battle of Falluja. Even though they were not stationed together...they found a way to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together...in a combat zone.

Prior to completing his combat tour...he was awarded the bronze star and combat action badge for being engaged with enemy combatants on numerous occasions. His wife was also awarded the Combat Action Badge and Meritorious Service Medal.

At the age of 36, he returned from the war and attended U.S.Army flight school and was qualified to fly the UH-60 Blackhawk.

In 2009, he was deployed back to the Middle East as a UH 60 Blackhawk Helicopter Pilot and Intelligence Officer.

He authored and published "Wings over Kuwait".

After returning from his deployment, he started a small business, it failed.

The effects of spending 5 years from his family due to military combat and training events...he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Similar to Vietnam Veterans...he came back home as a different man. For many years he battled PTSD....even his marriage was strained.

His good friend from the Army battled PTSD and committed suicide.  Another Army buddy struggled with PTSD and turned to drugs and alcohol.

The company he worked for, Edward Jones Investments fired him because they didn't understand PTSD and didn't want any part of it.

After several years of internal conflict, he finally found inner peace.  

Wanting to serve Hoosiers, in 2014...he ran for U.S. Congress and lost in the primary.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 2015 after 20 years of service.

He attended Purdue University and earned a MBA in 2015.

In 2016, he ran for the U.S. Congressional District #4 primary, he received over 38,000 votes and lost.

Today, he is a Senior & Financial Consultant for Family Tax Service and is working on a Masters degree in Accounting from Purdue University.

After 31 years, he is still married to his high school sweetheart and have a wonderful ten year old boy.

He is passionate about serving his Country and fellow Hoosiers...he is fighter and will not give up on you or your family. He is not a rich man...but believes in God, Country and Family.
