Bethany Hamilton was a rising star in the surfing world, known for her natural talent and fearless attitude. Born and raised in Hawaii, she spent her days riding the waves. But in 2003, at the age of 13, her life changed dramatically. While surfing off the coast of Kauai, a 14-foot tiger shark attacked Bethany, severing her left arm. It was a devastating blow, but Bethany’s spirit remained unbroken.

Just one month after the attack, she was back in the water, determined to surf again. Learning to balance and maneuver with one arm was incredibly challenging, but Bethany’s perseverance and love for surfing drove her forward.

She adapted her techniques and worked tirelessly to regain her strength and skill. Her incredible comeback was highlighted when she competed in her first major competition since the attack, finishing fifth in the Open Women’s division of the NSSA National Championships. Bethany went on to become a professional surfer, winning national titles and inspiring countless people.
