NEVER FORGET (or have we)

Over the next few days, you will undoubtedly hear a ton about the 20th anniversary of the 9|11 terrorists attack on American soil. Phrases such as “Never Forget” will be posted millions upon millions of times (including mine). But, as I began to post this, I began to wonder "what does this mean, exactly"?
It means so much to so many that nailing down an exact definition is near impossible. It has different meanings to different people.
To some, it means “Remember What Happened to Prevent It from Happening Again” while to others it represents an ideology of “Never Test American Heart”. Whatever it means to you there is no doubt that YOU felt a sense of belonging/closeness/kinship with your fellow Americans that day, because we were ALL in this together.
Now, just a short 20 years later and 1 day from the 20th Anniversary of that tragic event, we Americans stand as divided as we’ve ever been. We let our collective guards down and handed our government over to the likes of unscrupulous media outlets, unethical lobbyists, and dirty politicians. “They” have us exactly where they want us - DIVIDED. They’re pulling the puppet strings and we are at each other’s throats. Over what? What happened to Never Forget? Have we already forgotten (how we felt that day)?
I simply want to ask “Are We A Better Nation Than We Were 20 Years Ago?” Do you remember how YOU felt on “that” day, 20 years ago? Why must we be given our opinions by the likes of underhanded media outlets, immoral lobbyists, and Machiavellian politicians?

To me “Never Forget” simply means that; Never Forget - the feeling that day wrapped me in. Never Forget the kinship I felt with ALL my fellow Americans. Never Forget that we were ALL in it together and vowing to get some payback.
America is not a perfect country and never will be but if we ALL remember how we felt and acted on that infamous day and following weeks, this country would be a much better place to live today!
By the way (and before anyone thinks I am “taking a position”, you’re wrong), I am simply speaking to the fact that during that time 20 years ago, we were all on each other’s sides. Each one of us had our neighbor’s 6.
*(This is in no way a political post. I'm not the least bit interested in hearing your opinion(s) about which side is responsible for the current state of affairs)*
