I have been working with interims for nearly five years, and clients often ask the question; what is the benefit of bringing someone in on an interim contract? An interim offers a range of advantages, their reputation rides on their last contract which means they are constantly delivering a great service to you as the client. In a nutshell, they are:
Flexible
For both sides of the contract. We know that projects can run late or change and having someone on a day rate means you can easily adjust the number of days you need, matching your resource to the needs of your business. You can also choose the right skills for the project. Some of our interims are specialists and some are generalists offering communications and marketing expertise.
Experienced
Working with different organisations, in a range of sectors, and on a variety of projects means that they have a wealth of experience at their fingertips. Their insight into different organisations means that they have a broad view of what works and what doesn’t. If you have a very particular campaign, project or change programme going on, then it is very likely that a specialist has guided a similar organisation through this already.
Available
Available immediately. This is the phrase I would say goes hand in hand with the ideal interim. They tend to take on contracts for a period of time and take time out once they have finished. They will rarely take holiday during the project, meaning that the project or period of cover is never short of resource.
Resourceful
Interims by their very nature, hit the ground running, they draw on their previous experience to deliver the best possible service to their clients. They are skilled professionals, which means that their knowledge allows for them to draw on different experiences, to quickly take on the organisations tone of voice, tap into relationships they have had throughout their career and adapt to what you as a client need from them.
If reading this has made you think about upcoming projects or potential lengthy recruitment processes that could benefit from an interim, then get in touch. VMAGroup is launching a report covering the interim market across internal and external communications later this year, and I would be happy to chat through our findings with you.
So, don’t FEAR the interim’s here.
