Never Enough Time

Like many achievers, I often battle with the feeling that there’s never enough time—either to get everything done or to enjoy the things I truly want to do. And ironically, I waste time worrying about getting my to-do list done!

During my coaching training, we practiced coaching each other in 20-minute segments. One day, as a session was drawing to a close, I blurted out in frustration, “I don’t know what else to do; I only have two minutes.”

That moment took me back to school days—staring at a test with a page of unanswered questions as the clock ran out. Tight chest. Sweaty palms. That sinking feeling of not having and not being enough.

But my wise instructor just smiled and said, “Yes, and imagine how much you can do in two minutes.”

What if, instead of stressing over never having enough time, I became curious about what’s possible in the time I do have? Not in an uber-productive, squeeze-out-every-second kind of way, but in a way that invites presence and possibility.

Instead of thinking, “I only have two minutes,” what if I asked, “What interesting thing can I do with two minutes?”

In two minutes, I can:

? Ask the barista about her day.

?? Pray at a stoplight.

?? Tell my husband something I appreciate about him.

?? Text a friend a word of encouragement.

?? Step outside and soak up some sunshine.

God calls us to use our time wisely:

"Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts." Psalm 90:12

I don’t think wisdom means becoming productivity machines. Maybe it’s about learning to see the small, meaningful opportunities already present in our days.

I’ll never have enough time to check off every task or answer every email, but I can make those little moments more delightful.

You have two minutes—what will you do with them?

Thanks for this, Cammie! I especially appreciate the examples of what you can do in two minutes. They’re things that could change someone else’s day. In only two minutes.

"What’s possible in the time I do have?" I love this perspective - for both the little and big things. Thanks for always sharing great wisdom, Cammie!

Succinct and apt for today's never ending rush. Checking in with friends who have been oddly quiet and distant is a way to do 2 minutes well. Thanks for sharing Cammie.
