Never be bored again - mix heatmap & video. VolleyStation explains volleyball from the inside - part 7.

As we already introduced you to heatmaps here, it's time to show some more exciting examples. In VolleyStation, we love to combine a few features together, just as we did below.

Data is appealing to us, we really enjoy combining numbers with visuals, and as far as we know coaches and volleyball analysts are doing it regularly. There is no better feeling than to see your players understand the game more and more. We believe that combining heatmaps and videos will also bring you a deeper understanding even if you are just a volleyball fan.

So let's start with some famous names from the volleyball world.

#10 Jordan Larson (USA) - X5

When we look at the heatmap on this video,? we can see that the American outside hitter often hits the cross court direction, which helps us better prepare the block-defense positions. If we see that most of the attack is being made diagonally, the coach may attempt to set up the block leaving the space between the antenna and blocking players, which may benefit block numbers.

#12 Jordan Thompson (USA) - X8

The opponent’s liberos are trying to protect the direction in which the American opposite hits the most balls from the back row during the Olympic Qualifications in ?ód?.?Most attacks are made in the deep left side of the court (about 2-3 meters from the sideline). You can also change the assumptions of the block or change the players' defense position to the place where the ball is most often attacked.

#17 Candelaria Herrera Rodriguez (ARG) - XD

Heatmaps are also crucial while we analyze the middle blockers - here, we can see that the Argentinian middle blocker hit most balls to zone 9 while she was attacking from the slide. Thanks to this knowledge, even though the balls for the central players are fast, in a short moment, the player playing on the wing can direct her hands in the block to block access to zone number 9.

#17 Trevor Clevenot (FRA) - Tip

An interesting aspect to check is how your opponents use the tips during the game. In this case, we can see that the player often tips short behind the block, so our players in defensive should keep that in mind during the game. This is an important aspect to check whether the opponents we are playing against often use various types of moves, and if they do, where can we expect a tip or light attack. This will make us better prepared and reduce the risk of making mistakes.

We can talk for hours about our heatmaps (and other VolleyStation PRO features). Let us know what interests you the most!
