Never be afraid to try something new

Learning something new represents a challenge as we know we will be forced to leave our comfort zone. Pushing our limits is not an easy thing, but it is required when we want to grow on a personal level! You are too perfectionist, and would like yourself to reach mastery from the beginning. You go directly to your “panic zone”, while you should just begin with some small, new elements ! This unrealistic learning strategy leads you to a chronical feeling of hopelessness. Your brain has encoded that “learning = hard = I won’t do it = it’s too hard for me = I fear I am not good enough = I am helpless, so I should just avoid learning”.

You lack self-esteem and self-confidence, and you don’t persevere enough when the topic is hard. Instead of pushing your limits, you simply go and contemplate them, which makes you feel as a helpless person (while you are not !). Your unconsciousness also encodes that, and your negative self-talk keeps holding you back. You see learning as defining your core persona. Don’t see your performances at t-time as something which defines your being rather than a step in a longer process ! If you don’t link your grades / performances / abilities to solve an exercises with “who you are” - but instead, with “what you know to do at the time you do it” - you will feel relieved.

When you perform and learn, you must not prove that you are already an expert or “good enough” with a topic. You are not trying to prove you are smart, and possess intelligence. Just try the strategy of experimenting new things in order to “get-better” ! What is the best way to deal with things ? Get it started. No matter what, and without unrealistic expectations. The beginning is half of the process. If you have begun, you’ve already almost finished !

“Fear is inevitable, I have to accept that, but I cannot allow it to paralyze me.” ~Isabel Allende. Life is full of opportunities and new things to try. Many of us march along in our lives and try one or two things as we have time or feel so inclined. Many of us reach out and make a healthy habit of trying something new just for the sake of trying something new. Yet, sometimes we face something we want to do or mean to do and become stuck. We may become frozen from moving forward with this action, submission or beginning. Here are several ideas to overcome the fear of trying something new

Trying something new opens up the possibility for you to enjoy something new. Trying something new keeps you from becoming bored. Trying something new often requires courage. And needing to summon courage is itself a benefit. Trying something new forces you to grow. We don't ever grow from taking action we've always taken (the growth that enabled us to be able to take it has already occurred). Remind yourself that you will learn something new when you do a certain task for the first time. There is nothing wrong with learning something new and gaining new experiences. There is always ways to improve and become a better person.

Be flexible and have an open mind. It can be tough to do something new when you do not know what to expect. Be willing to go with the flow and open your mind to learning new things. Go at your own pace. Some people like to rush into things that can cause a lot of stress. Everybody get nervous when encountering something new and different. Take a deep breath and take things slow. If things do not turn out right, then stop what you are doing and do something else. We all face new opportunities so do not be quick to dismiss them. Cheers!
