NeuraVision Project: Intelligent Vision Restoration Neuro-Prosthesis Design and Development

I am thrilled to announce that my teammate Dr. Sahar Darbarpanah and I have been selected as young scientists of Iran in 2023 by The Young Scientists Festival, sponsored by the presidential scientific and research deputy of the Iran and with the support of the Jamili Foundation for the Advancement of the Youth Ingenious and the Identification of New Ideas. We were recognized for our NeuraVision project, an intelligent vision restoration neuro-prosthesis design and development.

Solving the Challenge of Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinitis pigmentosa is a debilitating disease that gradually causes blindness, with reduced visual field in the early stages and complete blindness in middle age. Unfortunately, there is currently no definitive treatment for this disease. Even methods such as gene therapy and bionic eye (Bionic Eye) are in their initial stages and do not provide definitive treatment. Our team recognized this issue and set out to find a solution.

After reviewing the available treatment methods for patients with retinitis pigmentosa, we developed a forward plan that involves the re-engineering of retinal prosthesis. The image reflected on the retina is converted into a nerve signal and transmitted to the visual cortex (brain) through the optic nerve. In that part, the processing and image discovery and pattern search operations are done, and the general concept of the image is presented to the audience.

Our Goal for the NeuraVision Project

The NeuraVision project's goal is to rehabilitate and improve the quality of life of patients with retinitis pigmentosa. By using our intelligent vision restoration neuro-prosthesis design and development, we aim to provide an effective treatment for this disease.

We are grateful for this recognition and would like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the project. My teammate and I look forward to continuing our research and making further contributions to the field of medical and engineering technology.
