Mind reading tech is coming
A bit on Neuralink, brain-computer interfaces (BCI) and mind reading tech
First, let's talk about the big ?? in BCI
That is Elon Musk’s Neuralink
Neuralink has developed an implantable brain-computer interface (BCI) designed to allow folks to control external devices with their thoughts.
One of its first goals is to help restore autonomy for paralysis patients.
Just last month, the company announced its first implant in a human brain.
As it now looks to gear up to go "into production", the Neuralink team is growing quickly (headcount data from CB Insights below)
But Neuralink is not the only co in the space...
There are a number of brain-computer interface startups working on solutions to address mobility — and they are drawing investor attention.
For example, Synchron raised a $75M Series C round in December 2022.
To implant its BCI, the company uses a minimally invasive procedure to avoid open brain surgery.
A few other players in the space are below.
But outside of BCIs, brain activity + AI is gaining momentum...
The combination of brain activity data with AI is enabling tech to “read minds” with eerie accuracy.

For example, a recent study showed that AI can be used to reconstruct images from human brain activity.
In the study, a participant viewed a set of images (first row in the graphic below).
The fMRI data from that session was combined with image generation model Stable Diffusion to produce the second row of images.
Trippy as hell.

Thanks always Anand, is CB doing insights on this kind of tech?
