Article#2: Neuralink Live Demo by Elon Musk

Elon's Musk has demonstrated the Neuralink chip and capabilities in this presentation. The Neuralink chip which is of the size of a currency coin can fit on your head. The chip is equipped with 1024 microsized electrodes which are the carriers of the Neural Spikes. These electrodes can be easily inserted inside your brain within a few hours with the help of an automated robot.

They have presented a live demo on pigs. Three pigs (with no chip, with the chip, had the chip but removed afterward) are shown. The pig with no chip and the pig which had the chip but removed afterward are behaving similarly which shows that the removal of the chip is safe. The pig with the chip was moving around similar to the other two but the device on it was providing a time-series multi-channels data representing neuro-spikes.

Basically, a neuro spike is the flow of a huge amount of ions carrying electric current through the network of neurons. The amplitude of the signal represents some event, for example, when the pig is provided with food, the overall amplitude of the signals has increased. This is because such an event has caused multiple neurons to excite which may be due to the achievement of reward and then consuming the reward (goal) if I talk in terms of reinforcement learning.

One of the best achievements they have is the prediction of the motion of limbs with the help of the information coming from the Neuralink device.

This shows that if some patients have problem-related to moving certain parts of the body and with this technology you would know which brain functionality is responsible for it. Such limbic controls can be revived by feeding the similar information directly on to the muscles of the limbs associated with the motion or feeding that information on to artificial limbs.

When asked about the cost of the device and the overall procedure, Elon Musk said it may cost a lot in the beginning but the cost will drastically decrease over time and it may be available in a few thousand dollars. When asked about the future plans of the company and specifically a twitter question, whether we can play our past memories? He said it is possible, we need to download the memories on the chip and then replay those memories on to the neurons in the form of external neuro-spikes.

The Neuralink device is successful and is game-changing. This technology will improve drastically and in a few decades, we can see these devices with all of us like Fitbits now. What could be a better future than this? What if different kinds of intelligence we possess individually can be downloaded and is available to all of the humankind over the internet. This is true equality in the best possible sense where everyone is on the same page, nothing needs to be excessively proud of. We can talk without even using vocal cords. We can send the thoughts going into our minds across oceans through the internet. This is what is called magic which is said to be possessed by some great individual but now all can have this. We all will be one and connected to each other. Is this what great humans like Gautam Buddha, Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohd., Hinduism, etc. were trying to do through religion? Is this what is taught in all religious books? Is the true YOGA which Hinduism talks about? Think about it!!!!
