The Neural Interface is the Last Device

The web was a great invention, it quickly led to the mobile phone; which they tried to convince us was the supercomputer in our pocket. If only they could have seen the future, read on.
The truth is, artificial intelligence only merges with human-centric living when the neural interface arrives.
Mobile Device - Smart Speaker - Neural Interface - AGI
The Smart Speaker is an Omen of Voice-First AI
While Alexa devices from Amazon, Google Home, and Tmall Genie and associated voice-first devices are giving us a sign of what a post-mobile world will look like, the pieces are set in motion for neural devices to hit the market likely before 2030.
This is the device that will change everything for how humans connect with the digital, new digital worlds, and the real world in new ways.
BCIs have the potential to revolutionize every aspect of modern technology. (Brain Computer Interface)
As many opportunities as Facebook have missed with video and early failures in VR, Facebook's Building 8 is busy working on a neural interface prototype.
DARPA recently gave out grants, $65 million to select academics to work on the tiny two-way brain-computer interface.
This isn't exactly news, DARPA, Elon Musk's Neuralink, and other companies are already working hard to manifest this device.
This is a bigger race than autonomous vehicles, or deep learning, because this device changes everything.
From interpersonal relationships, to the speed of innovation, to how we relate to the world in multiple dimensions simultaneously.
The Hardware of the Future is Coming
It, the neural interface, greatly improves conditions for AI to acquire AGI, or artificial general intelligence, the ability to self-learn over generalised tasks.
Neural interfaces allow such significant improvements in human living, their pros far outweigh their cons.
- Greater digital bandwidth
- "Telepathic" communication
- More direct data-streams to train AI and predictive analytics
- "Hive Mind" instantaneous teamwork
- Hyper efficient skills acquisition and education ("Software uploading" and "Consciousness downloading")
- Blockchain of collective decision making
- Enhanced productivity and community
- "Always on" digital interface with faster human output than is currently possible
- Neural command responsive connected devices and augmented IoT
- Holistic advances in self-awareness and an integrated augmented quantified self of everything
Eventually, brain-computer interfaces could let people control augmented reality and virtual reality experiences with their mind instead of a screen or controller.
Augmented Humans and Emotional AI
The neural interface is as inevitable as the mobile smart phone was and represents very natural progressions through technological stages by organics.
This of course solves some human problems and creates new ones, as with any tool humanity has constructed and manipulated.
Mind reading in the future won't be invasive, it will be preferable. Taking the guesswork out of understanding others, will be mutually beneficial in a variety of contexts.
The Last Frontier of Technology and Venture Capital
In capitalism, this, the neural interface, is the "holy grail" that venture capital ought to be chasing.
In a world where FinTech, wearables, VR and many other promising technologies haven't proven to be viable or monetizable; we have to turn our attention and sights on more utilitarian, transhumanistic and radical solutions.
If what is radical to one generation is simply the new normal for the next cohort, who is to say how far human beings will transform themselves.
While the rest of the world continues to catch up getting on to the web, a few individuals will start to have access to this tech, and it will be too profitable not to get right, and fast.
If data is the currency of the future, the BCI is the gateway of everything.
Who Will be the "Apple" of the Neural Interface
Contrary to what Apple, Samsung, Facebook and even Google might prefer, the mobile smart phone is not the end of our symbiosis with technology.
Their entire empires and cash streams rely on us staying there, but we won't.
Amazon, Tencent, Microsoft, Google or some other company will legitimise their digital (payments, software, cloud, e-commerce and enterprise) empire via a functional and non-invasive neural interface, and the entire world will forever be changed by it.
The smartest company will become the "Apple" of the next device, and odds are that next device, is the neural interface. #FutureRunDown
The race is not to artificial intelligence itself, but to the merging of humans with AI; as an increasing number of futurists and technologists are starting to realize.

I call the "automation economy" the period of job displacement we are entering circa 2022, where a movement begins where many people no longer have the skills to participate in the labour force.

7 年I'd like to add here that we often like to jump to hugely dystopian views that our mind cant quite handle. What I mean by that, if only 15 years ago, someone would have described the iphone and the app store, most people would have not believed it. We have inched our way over there bit by bit. Its the same with this technology. We will not be super-humans right away, we will inch our way, bit by bit, into tweeting our own reality and experience. I agree, lets have this conversation; its a loaded one and a fantastical one, but its happening right now and I rather stop fear mongering and start informing.

7 年Fortunately the AI music left me cold, if Spotify are playing at being 'a fake Artist, fake producer' I hope it truly back fires. As for us humans, we need to enrich our souls and have music that was born out of passion, joy, fun, creativity and spontaneity ...If Spotify and any other company are pushing this AI agenda just to save a dollar then they just lost a fan and millions more! As for Alexa she's my kind of gal...currently listening to the entire portfolio of White Snake and heard a track I had never discovered before "Forever More" wonderful song, check it out, great arrangement and production. Just need a Karaoke version now so I can have fun! Went to see the Pink Floyd exhibition at the V&A last week, wonderful and every step through the exhibition brought back such vivid memories. Stay true to music and Art because it has always been there for us, and our most powerful memories often have a powerful soundtrack.
