The Neu Project Resilience Space at IMEX America

The Neu Project Resilience Space at IMEX America

One of our highlights from the show was the Neu Project Resilience Space, powered by Google Xi and Hello! Destination Management.?

Resilience spaces offer a safe environment at events to regulate our sensory needs with controlled stimuli. Design-wise, they calm the senses and give people the physical and mental space to decompress and step away from over-stimulation.?

After visiting, an individual’s nervous system is regulated to better access tools, strategies and clear thinking to help improve their event experience.?

Learn more about the Neu Project Resilience Space at IMEX America in this video produced by Hello! Destination Management.?

We spoke to Megan Henshall , Co-founder of Google Xi and Kate Walsh , VP, Professional Development & Stakeholder Engagement, Hello! Destination Management to find out more.?

Why was it important to bring the Neu Project Resilience Space to IMEX America???

Megan: We're all more resilient?when we take breaks and make time for renewal and integration, but for neurodivergent communities this is an issue of access and equity. Resilience?spaces and sensory and social tools are necessary offerings that are needed to fully engage?and participate.??

Kate: IMEX America has a vast attendee base so bringing The Neu Project Resilience Space to life demonstrated proof of concept. This type of environment is a necessary inclusion as we plan the future of events, because it serves the needs of so many.?

What were your goals with space??

Megan: We wanted to ensure placemaking for attendees, particularly?neurodivergent attendees, in the form of a designed space?that promotes our universal human needs of rest, restoration and regulation.??

What impact did you hope to make on attendees using the space??

Kate: I love it when people have those lightbulb ‘sometimes you don’t know you need something until you experience it’ moments!? For example, one attendee visiting the space remarked that going back to your hotel during the day is just not on the cards, so having a Resilience Space to recharge, allowed him to be more present and more strategic with his business conversations.??

Megan: My greatest hope is that people?felt seen, represented?and cared for in the?space. I say regularly?that The Neu Project is a love letter to neurodivergent?people, and creating these spaces really is like an act of love, and an invitation?for people to take what they need and extend their self-care.??

Thank you to Google Xi and Hello! Destination Management for designing and powering this important space for everyone to benefit from.??

So inspiring, Megan Henshall! I’m especially moved by how you describe The Neu Project as a love letter to neurodivergent individuals. It’s such a beautiful and true sentiment—we all need more love in this world, and neurodivergent people deserve it in abundance. Thank you for creating something so meaningful!

The Neu Project sets the standard for the inclusive event industry! BRAVA!!
