NetZero Week | UK 1-7 July

This week is the UK’s National Awareness Week for Net Zero Carbon which aims to build awareness of the importance to reduce carbon emissions to combat the effects of climate change.https://bit.ly/Netzeroweek

?

On the 27th June 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to introduce legislation committing the UK to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. Unlike Carbon Neutrality, Net Zero aims to reduce emissions to their lowest amount and to only offset as a last resort for hard to reduce emissions. As such, organisations from each industry need to significantly reduce their carbon emissions.

?

In order to meet these targets, the UK Government also committed in 2021 to shift all electricity generation to clean sources by 2035, meaning that the whole of the nations electricity generation would be accounted for by renewables. https://bit.ly/decarboniseukpowersystems2035

Although emissions from electricity generation have reduced significantly over the last decade, there is still a lot of work to be done to reach these governments targets and Linxon are proudly working with our clients and partners in the UK to build this green infrastructure.

?

In Linxon our work contributes to reaching net carbon zero in almost every sector we operate as we are building the infrastructure to power the world with carbon free energy:

  • By connecting renewable power generation to the electrical grid, thereby replacing fossil plants in the generation mix.
  • By electrifying new rail and metro lines, reducing the carbon and overall ecological footprint of people mobility.
  • By reinforcing the grid to enable the integration of renewable generation, and building higher transmission capacity to cope with higher electricity demand, on account of decarbonizing individual transport and buildings

We are also continually looking for equipment and material supply options and methods of working which will significantly reduce both embodied and operational carbon by challenging all our team, including our supply chain partners, during both the design and delivery stages of our projects.

Thanks for this Marcus. Well written. A very important topic that needs to stay foremost in our minds in all that we do in the industry.
