The last one year, I attended various networking and learning events with high expectations of building meaningful relationships and learning. However, I've realized that few people have reached out to me, and my attempts to initiate contact have often been overlooked. I don't blame any participants but aim to analyze what went wrong between my expectations and reality. We heard that ?????? ?????????????? ???? ?????? ?????? ??????????, but it's been more idea than reality.
Despite having 2,544 LinkedIn contacts,?? ??????????'?? ???????????? ????????, ?????????????? ?????? ???????????????????? ?????????????????????? ???????? ???????? ???????? ?????? ???? ?????? ????????????????????s. I've come to understand the issue isn't with those contacts but with myself. I've nearly completed the process of building a deep and meaningful connection with myself and now feel confident in building such connections with others. Hence, I've developed a framework called ???????????????? for approaching networking and learning events:
- N: Needs and Contribution Identification - Clarify your purpose and reason for attending the event, such as finding potential clients, partners, or collaborators. Your intention should be clear as it will guide your time and efforts. Define specific business outcomes to achieve, focusing on a mindset of value creation and contribution.
- E: Engagement Strategy - Plan how you'll present yourself and interact with others. This includes preparing your demeanor, communication style, and strategies for various networking scenarios. Everything you do or don't do reflects your brand. Be clear on what you will say, why, and how. Understand that each minute invested either builds or erodes your wealth—time is precious, with roughly 4,000 weeks in an 80-year life span. Focus on giving and ensure consistency in personal branding across interactions.
- T: Target Research - Research and gather information about attendees, keynote speakers, and potential contacts. Knowing who will be there allows you to prioritize conversations and align them with your goals.
- W: Why Statement - Develop a concise and compelling elevator pitch that captures attention and clearly communicates your value proposition. Prepare how you will articulate what you offer, why it matters, and how it solves problems or meets needs in your industry.
- O: Opportunity Listening - Practice genuine interest and active listening during conversations. Be attentive to others' needs and interests to identify opportunities for collaboration or mutual benefit. People care about how you make them feel, heard, acknowledged, and appreciated.
- R: Relationship Building & ???????????????????? - Plan your follow-up strategy in advance. Prepare how you will maintain and nurture connections post-event, whether through emails, LinkedIn connections, or scheduling follow-up meetings. Continuous learning and adaptation are key to success. ?????????????? on each networking event to refine your approach based on feedback and evolving trends.
- T: Tools Preparation - Ensure you have necessary networking tools ready, such as business cards, a polished LinkedIn profile, and any relevant materials. These tools reinforce your presence and facilitate future communication. Consider bringing small gifts for distribution and honor the commitments you make to people.
- H: Honor Etiquette - Understand and apply appropriate networking etiquette. Know how to approach individuals, engage in group conversations, and gracefully exit discussions while respecting others' time and boundaries. Presence and patience are your best tools, yielding unimaginable benefits.
???????????????? encapsulates these essential aspects, ensuring you're well-prepared to maximize networking events by setting clear intentions, preparing effectively, and fostering meaningful connections.
