Sometimes we don't see the value because we are spending LOTS of time with no apparent results. That can happen.? So we think networking is NOT working and quit!? But before you throw in the towel, take a step back and reassess your approach. Networking isn’t just about attending events and collecting business cards—it’s about building meaningful relationships and creating long-term opportunities. If you’re feeling drained and seeing little return on your efforts, it may be time to refine your strategy.

Here’s how to make networking actually work for you:

  1. Be Selective – Not all networking events are created equal. Focus on groups and gatherings that align with your industry, target audience, or business goals. Quality over quantity will save you time and energy.
  2. Follow Up and Stay Connected – Attending an event is just the first step. The real magic happens in the follow-up. Send a quick email, schedule a coffee chat, or connect on LinkedIn. Consistent communication is what turns acquaintances into valuable business relationships.
  3. Give Before You Get – Networking is a two-way street. Instead of only looking for what you can gain, focus on how you can help others. When you become a resource, people are more likely to reciprocate.
