Networking vs.Interviewing: How to Get Better at BOTH

Today, in our private career support group on Facebook I asked our members to tell me which is harder? Networking or interviewing. Turns out, members felt networking is 2X harder than interviewing. The funny thing is, it was a trick question.
Whichever one is harder to you says a lot about your communication style.
I jumped on Facebook live to share how, depending on which one you feel is harder, I can tell you some things about your communication style. [You can watch the video below to see what they are.]
I also shared that the easiest way to get better at both is to build a "strategy" to hack each activity so when it's time to network or interview, you're able to leverage your communication strengths. Think about it: school teaches us all sorts of things EXCEPT how to nurture our career skills. Professional development is a muscle. You must exercise it a little bit every day (hence our name, Work It Daily), if you want to stay at the top of your career game. The good news is, this can be as simple as joining a free career support group on Facebook. The two or three minutes you spend each day reviewing the conversations can help you learn and grow as a professional. And, as I point out in the video, when the time comes that you are ready to take your career to the next level, you'll know exactly where to go for help!
P.S. - I'm proud to say we are the fastest growing career support group on Facebook. The people joining are so inspiring and resourceful. I love their honesty about where they are in their careers. So, why not join us? CLICK HERE to join.
P.S.S. - For those of you that don't like Facebook, but do want career support. I invite you to visit Work It Daily and learn how you can get full access to all the courses, coaching and community provided by myself and my team for a low monthly fee. No set-up costs. Cancel at any time.

7 年Thank you so much for sharing these insights! I often find interviewing difficult because like you said, it seemed too structured. It's a relief though to hear that I can make up for it using your advice.
