Unleashing the potential of diverse and untapped talent, ages 16-25, by providing dynamic career-advancing opportunities on an all-inclusive engaging platform.
As the founder of Together We Succeed, I’ve had to navigate the world of professional connections early on. I still remember my first networking events, unsure if I was doing it right. Through trial, error, and a lot of learning, I’ve come up with a few tips that might help you, especially if you’re just starting out.
1. Be Yourself
It sounds simple, but it’s crucial. People can spot inauthenticity from a mile away. When you’re networking, don’t just recite your resume or put on a fa?ade. Instead, let your real self shine through. Share your passions, your story, and your genuine interests. It’s those authentic conversations that people remember and appreciate.
2. Focus on Building Relationships
Networking isn’t about gathering as many contacts as possible. It’s about forming real connections. Try to engage in meaningful conversations rather than just exchanging pleasantries. Find out what drives the other person, what they’re passionate about, and see where you have common interests.
3. Take Initiative
If there’s someone you admire or would like to connect with, don’t be afraid to reach out. A friendly message or an email introducing yourself can go a long way. Be honest about why you’re reaching out and what you’d like to discuss. People are often more receptive than you might think.
4. Offer Value
One of the best ways to build a network is to give before you get. If you come across an article or a resource that you think might be useful to someone, share it with them. Or, if you can help with a problem or offer some advice, do so. It’s about creating a positive exchange that benefits both sides.

5. Follow Up
Meeting someone is just the start. Following up is where you solidify that connection. A quick email or message thanking them for their time and suggesting a next step can make a big difference. It shows that you value the interaction and are interested in keeping in touch.
6. Get Involved
Attend events, join groups, and be active in your field. Whether it’s an industry conference or a local meet-up, these are opportunities to meet people and engage with your professional community. Even virtual events can be a goldmine for connections—just remember to be active and participate.
7. Use Social Media Wisely
Platforms like LinkedIn are great for staying in touch and engaging with your network. Share your thoughts, comment on others’ posts, and participate in discussions. But remember, online interactions are just one piece of the puzzle. They should complement, not replace, face-to-face or video meetings.
8. Be Patient
Building a network doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a gradual process, and it takes time to develop meaningful relationships. Keep nurturing your connections and stay engaged. Over time, you’ll find that your network grows and becomes an invaluable part of your career journey.
Networking has been a key part of my growth and success, and it can be for you too. By being genuine, offering value, and building real relationships, you’ll find that your network becomes a powerful resource. Let’s keep growing together and supporting each other along the way!
