Networking is one of the most effective strategies you can use to grow your coaching business, especially when you're just starting out.
You have to remember.
It is not about sales right away.
Networking goes beyond just meeting people — Focus on providing value, when you give without expecting something in return, people are more likely to give back.
It's about building and creating meaningful relationships, overtime this creates opportunities to collaborate, get referrals, and have more conversations with your ideal clients.
Its s very easy to use a cookie cutter approach, but this will lead to overwhelm, here are my top tips to Network with success.
1. Identify your ideal client.
Focus on connecting with people who can benefit from your service, and then show up to serve.
When you come from a place of service rather than gain, you will benefit more. No-one likes a taker, of course it's about business, but it is also about supporting and getting to know people in the group, your ideal clients will reveal themselves overtime.
2. Attend In person Events and Conferences
Find some local in person business events, where you can go and promote your coaching business, and start to get known for what you do.
Conferences, and seminars are also great opportunities for networking. These events gather like-minded people together, making it easier to meet potential collaborators, clients, and referral partners
3. Join a few online networking groups.
Online platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook groups provide great virtual networking opportunities. But be strategic. Think about where your ideal client may be.
4. Practice actively listening.
Networking isn’t just talking about your business — it’s about understanding other peoples needs and challenges. Listen actively to what others are saying and look for ways to help.
This not only builds rapport but also increases the likelihood that people will want to do business with you.
Tip: Ask open-ended questions, and show genuine interest in others peoples businesses and also the challenges they are facing. As a coach this gives you valuable insights, and will help spark meaningful conversations.
5. Follow up and stay in touch.
After meeting someone, follow up with a personalised message, whether it’s an email, LinkedIn connection request, or phone call. People may not remember you so be sure to reference something you talked about to remind them of the conversation.
Tip: Nurture the relationship. Maintain regular contact, share any valuable resources you have, offering support, or simply just checking in. This keeps the relationship warm and positions you as someone who’s genuinely interested in helping.
6. Connect with other coaches
Collaborative partnerships with others in the coaching Industry is not something new coaches do, but it will expand your reach, and help you tap into new customers.
Tip: Look for partners with complementary products or services, or those who share a similar target audience, but offer a different approach, that is complimentary to what you do.
Things to consider
Create a concise, message known as an elevator pitch, which tells people exactly what you do, who you can help, and how.
If you need a template join the resource hub, lots of great tools and templates. £7 per month no tie in.
Stay Consistent, give it time to work!
Networking is not a one-time activity but an ongoing process. Consistently attending events, nurturing relationships, and offering value will build trust and rapport, which leads to stronger relationships over time.
Tip: Set aside time each week or month to network, whether it’s through social media, or attending events.
You only need a few authentic partnerships for networking to work, so by focusing on authentic relationship-building and providing value, networking can become one of your most powerful tools to grow your business.
