Networking and a Skating Rink

Not everything in New York is expensive. I was tempted to try a thirty dollar hamburger at the Hudson Yards Grill. Probably no more than expensive than Five Guys at this point.

Steak was one hundred twenty so that was a comparative bargain. I am trying to eat less at this point. It was interesting walking east to west in Manhattan. Normally I walk north to south. It led to seeing different areas.

The highlight of the day, after I had enough of Times Square, was watching skaters at Bryant Park. I have never gone ice skating. No one ever invited me. I was invited to a roller-skating rink once. Strangely, my friend's father invited about five children and four of them changed their plans at the front door.

Did they chicken out? They might have had other plans on a Sunday afternoon. I was taken to the skating rink and didn't fall down. I mostly stayed in the middle moving back and forth.

What do I look like? Kim Fields? Tootie on The Facts of Life was put on roller skates to make her a couple inches taller. None of which has to do with open ice skating. It was free to skate. There was a rental fee for skates and you could rent a penguin.

Not a live penguin. It was the ice skating equivalent of training wheels. Anything to help you balance. Watching the skaters go past; there were many doing this for the first time. They were apprehensive and held onto the railing.

They did better than I could. You have to start somewhere. Others sailed past as if they were on the hockey team in college. Everyone did their own thing. The more experienced skaters did not cut off the beginners.

Some of the beginners improved during the one hour session. This sounds like a good dating option. All I need to do is find a date. My sister lived near the Fairfax Ice Arena. When I dropped her off on Sunday night I would stop at the skating rink.

They had pinball machines which kept me occupied. I watched the skaters a little. It takes practice like everything else. Whether I ever put on skates or not remains to be seen. It was nice seeing people of all ages on the ice. This was one time I did not mind standing on the sidelines.

I told strangers they were doing well. My father would have laughed at a child who fell. He wasn't there and there are ways to rebel which enhance the present. Strangely, this was the highlight of my trip. I was not necessarily interested in nightlife.

If I had a group to meet it would have been fun. There are certain restaurants I have not visited because they seem better in a group. It hasn't inspired me to branch out and make friends.

It wasn't important in a different area. Enjoy the moment and many enjoyed skating. Some fell and got right back up. Everyone supported everyone around them. If it can happen in midtown Manhattan it can happen anywhere.
