Networking or Netselling – Your Outlook

When you walk into a room, what do others see? Are you:

Confident or doubtful?

Cheerful or sad?

Enthusiastic or reluctant?

Friendly or surly?

Respectful or dismissive?

Encouraging or discouraging?

You attract people based on how they perceive you. If you want to change their perception, start by becoming the person you want them to see.

As F. Matthias Alexander once said, “People don’t decide their futures, they decide their habits, and their habits decide their futures.” Habits are actions we take without thinking, and our actions stem from our thoughts.

Developing a positive mindset begins with a single thought. The adage, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he,” reminds us that our thoughts shape our actions and, ultimately, how others see us. Here are some ways to cultivate a positive attitude that attracts people the moment you enter a room:

1. Think of others more than yourself – People respond positively when they feel valued. As Maya Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

2. Laugh often – Laughter signals goodwill and helps others feel at ease.

3. Spend less than you make – Financial stability brings confidence and joy, which naturally attracts others.

4. Be an encourager – People gravitate towards those who uplift and inspire them.

5. Pray instead of worrying – Prayer fosters strength and wisdom, traits that others recognize and respect.

6. Be grateful for what you have – As Zig Ziglar said, “Your altitude is determined by your attitude of gratitude.” Grateful people are naturally appealing.

7. Keep going—never quit – People love being around those who are resilient and solution-oriented. “Can-do” individuals:

-> Help others when needed

-> Make valuable introductions

-> Serve their communities

Start today to nurture the positive attitude that draws others in. Build know, like, and trust relationships within your network, and watch the power of positivity transform your influence.
