Networking on Linkedin!

I am sure most of you would be "Networking" on Linkedin, trying to connect with people you know and people you would like to know. However I find a big missing feature while adding connections that would not force people to choose "Friend" as a default option that many use.

Is Linkedin only for friends or people you know? Well I feel differently and hope Linkedin can add a reason "Would Like to Know" or something similar that can convey the right message to the person we want to connect.

Otherwise, unless you belong to same group, university, company or are friends and know each others email, you cannot choose to be wanting to know someone!

At the same time, no matter how many requests you send, some people just ignore while others keep the requests pending until they get a reminder while some others visit your profile and then decide not to accept the request. Why is it so difficult to accept a connection request and to network? Why are requests ignored?

Surprisingly not just connection requests but also messages from contacts do not probably get a response most of the time. If Linkedin has any statistics regarding percentage of messages that get a reply amongst connections and non-connections it would be another eye opener! Meanwhile the least one can do is acknowledge even in this busy bust world!
