Like Iyanla Vanzant, I am your "Fairy Pitch Master," and I am here to help you fix your elevator pitches.
Question: Precious, I am having a hard time, saying what I do. at networking events. Every event I go to, there are so many real estate agents there and we all seem to say the same things to others in attendance. I want to stand out and have people call me when they are looking for an apartment or home. My current pitch is "I am Ms. S______ and I am real estate agent. If you are looking to rent or buy a new apartment or home, call me. Here is my card." What do you think?

ANSWER: First, thank you for expressing a common sentiment at networking events. Everyone sounds the same, handing out cards to people who will never call you. Second, your pitch has no flavor, passion or energy. Why did you get into your profession? Do you like helping people find their ultimate safe place to relax and call home in the concrete jungle? Do you get excited when you show a new place that can become someone's home in a neighborhood they never considered? Do you delight in going to different places in the city and discovering hidden gems to share with your clients?
Then please remember that an elevator pitch is an enticement to a bigger show. It's a performance not a presentation! Passion changes everything and helps them connect with the real you. Only then will they want to work with you.
You are so much more that a real estate salesperson. You are your clients' ultimate home finder charged with finding them their ultimate place to relax, relate, and release in this crazy, big city. You must take pride in sharing in their journey of finding a safe place to call their own.
Remember your why and make sure to stand in your power and claim your space. You are a problem solver, so look for a fun way to introduce yourself. Finding a home in this city is hard no matter what the budget looks like. So, focus on the solution, how you are different from the others there, and listen to your prospects. Only then can your pitch really sing!
Look everyone at the event you speak with in their eye. Let them introduce themselves first and then, with confidence, say your pitch (that of course you practiced many times beforehand, so it sounds flawless) and own the night.
