Networking and Fish Tanks

It has been a while since seeing my sister's children at swim school. This is something I did not have as a child. There were swimming lessons. Most of what I was given to do can be filed under "Wastes of time."

Besides team sports where I mostly sat on the bench (just because there are no cuts did not mean I was getting into the game) I was taken to Tumbling class. They could have taught me about gymnastics. The uneven bars, balancing- that would have been interesting.

Tumbling was a class where children did somersaults on a mat. Why get involved? The kids of today attend swim school. Their father was on the swim team.

My father played basketball and baseball so he wanted me to do the same. I wasn't exactly Ken Griffey, Jr. I did well in martial arts and that did nothing for his sports fantasies.

None of which has to with a longer time at swim school. Over the summer one child had a thirty minute class followed by the other having an equivalent class. Now one has a thirty minute class, there is a break of thirty and the next class lasts one hour.

This is my Friday night. Children have totally replaced nightlife. They are active and in the moment. Coming off a week where too many employees were too preoccupied with their phones it was nice seeing children living in the moment. They named the fish and looked for them when they came into view.

Most of the parents were fooling around on their phones There isn't much to do as they wait for the class to end. The advantage of being middle aged is I run around with the children. It's fun to do. I cannot sit on the sidelines.

I had enough of that in team sports. It was enjoyable seeing children enmeshed in an aquarium. They turned the seats around to watch the fish. Why not? It is a way to pass the time while one child is in swim class. Just don't tap the glass.

They cannot have fish in the house because they have cats. I used to win goldfish at the school carnival (The May Festival). The fish I brought home the first Saturday in may never lived to see Mother's Day.

My sister was given fish for her birthday and they lived a few years. It is probably better to enjoy the aquarium at swim school than to take on fish of their own. What mattered most was they were in the moment.
