Networking can be done online or offline (in person). There are many ways to build up your professional network: joining social groups and clubs where people share similar interests; attending events hosted by companies or organizations related to your career field; volunteering for charities that interest you; following industry leaders on social media; reaching out directly via email/phone call/text message if someone has caught your eye from an article they wrote or video they posted online...the list goes on!

The key to networking is being genuine in your interactions with people. You don't have to be overly friendly or talkative at first--listen and ask questions.

When trying to get an interview with someone, it's easy to feel like you need to sell yourself; however, over-selling yourself can come across as inauthentic.

Instead of focusing on what makes you a good candidate for the job, try asking about the company culture and how they hire new employees (and if there are any openings).
