Network your way into your dream job

Network your way into your dream job

Sounds weird???? Sounds like it needs an explanation? ??

That's why The Tribe for Career Happiness did an event on it. Because at the Tribe we thrive on supporting each other to be happy in the New Work World. and I am happy to share with you our learnings from the Event.?

First of all:

It is okay to not know what you are good at and what you want, when you start job searching. In fact you are not alone, many don't know it, and that is ok, because you can find it out once you move into the process.

During our careers we often get good at activities that are far away from our dream jobs, that is why we need to become aware of what we can and want. This is for two reasons:

1. You deserve to be happy

2. When you know what you are good at and what you want you can better help others and give value.

This is the definition of good networking: Help others and be helped to reach goals.

The most common realization at the Workshop many participants had, was to find out at which stage of the job searching journey they are, hence we broke it down into 4 stages towards the dream job:?

  1. Still in an old environment, and no clue about what is next
  2. Still in old environment and started searching broadly
  3. Moved out of the old environment and continued searching somewhat motivated (for ages)
  4. Moved out of the old environment and continued searching and becoming frustrated??

?Until on stage 5, one would enter the next job.?

Having an awareness of exactly where you are on your journey is the first step.

After knowing where you stand it's about defining where you want to go and then walking your walk. I have helped hundreds of clients and with more than 8 years of experience in the field I say can share with you:

The path to find your dream job is networking!

Networking means helping each other to reach goals and it makes perfect sense, why should we not help each other? Well, we often lack the key personal skills: Empathy, Reciprocity, Trust, Authenticity, Honesty, Vulnerability, and self-management.?

Here are some things you can do right away to be a better networker:?

??? Awareness is key: Take a moment to reflect, on where you are on your journey, what you need, and how you can help others, write it down and share it with others

?? Building your Linkedin profile is a strong must and also very often a low-hanging fruit. Go for it.?

?? Reach out to people who are a stage further. Ask for a 10-minute call. Prepare for this call by reflecting on what you need help with and how you can help the other person. Be honest in the call.?

Remember: It is okay to not know what your dream job is or what you want. Many of the people I know don't know it. You can get there step by step by getting to know yourself better.?

I would like to thank George Abdo , Sarah B?hm, Maria Hartwig , Daniella , Nellie Friedrich , Yash Dash Sharma , Elias C , and Urs Holewa to?have contributed to this a great, supportive meeting.
