What an interesting week! Delta Cygni Labs has been leading extreme environment network measurements 1.4 km underground in the Callio research environment at Pyh?salmi Finland. We can confirm that FutureMINE is a deep commitment to innovation!

While most mines focus on extracting minerals, for us, this unique R&D environment provided an unprecedented opportunity to mine data. Five straight days of data collection with our partners Proxion and LibreQoS allowed us to gather insights from the world's most realistic R&D environment for mining.

Delta Cygni Labs is coordinating the project at Callio, a site that offers a unique opportunity to test and refine technologies for mining industry in a controlled realistic environment. This testing is critical for ensuring the reliability of digital tools being adopted for mining, where environmental constraints presents communication challenges. These challenges are at times even more demanding than those in maritime or space exploration!

Measurements at 400 level with 5G and WIFI use-case scenarios

Key Highlights

  • Global collaboration between the experts of radio signal analysis Kimmo Kolehmainen & Asko H. from Proxion Oy, network infrastructure remote monitoring by Robert Chacón and Dave Taht from LibreQoS Ltd, and application layer performance performance by Marco Carandente , Tivadar Gy?rgy Nagy and Mika Sivonen from Delta Cygni Labs Oy.
  • Measurements with a holistic view on three primary dimensions from radio equipment performance and network infrastructure monitoring to application layer performance. This provides unique perspective for network capabilities in the service of digitalization from autonomous- and tele-operations all the way to day-to-day enterprise tools.
  • Radio link performance with objective data and long-term statistics for monitoring and fault analysis to enhance wireless network performance, combined with XRTC acceleration to improve reliability, efficiency and responsiveness across all network types, including 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi, and even Starlink satellite connections.
  • This work will pave the way for controlled and knowledgeable roll-outs of digital tools and advanced network technologies.
